First Hartford High on New Project!
I just back from San Antonio today, Councilmen Garza,Espinosa and I had an opportunity to meet with the First Hartford group (the developer) for the proposed mall in Edinburg. It was very enlightening. First Hartford is getting alot of positive responses from several retailers. I specifically asked when we could expect to see construction on Trenton and 281. First Hartford is hoping to break ground in January. Needless to say I was very excited to hear this.
The conceptual design plan for the proposed mall is put together very nicely. It is still too early to give details on what stores will be in the mall, but First Hartford representatives assured me that they were very close to convincing at least one high end large department store on committing to the Edinburg Mall.
According to the Project Manager, First Hartford is hoping to breakground in January, of course alot of this will depend on the level of commitment they get from this weeks conference. The conference was an opportunity for Developers to court large and small retailers to their Shopping center. First Hartford should have a better idea on the Malls progress once the conference is over.
I will be contacting First Hartford on a regular basis and be updating everyone accordingly.

you know trying to compare Edinburg's Past with it's administrations is a lot like a special olympics race, regardless of who really won, it doesn't change the fact of retardation!! And, sorry i have to put it in those terms, but our city is HEAVILY RETARDED when compared to cities such as Brownsville, Harlingen, McAllen, even Mission is slowly surpassing us. Here in crooksville, people are bitching about the micromanaging problem(city administrations)while loosing sight of whats really the problem with this city. lets face it both sides to every political race have their own share of cheerleaders and regardless of how stupid their candidate may be or become, really has no bearing as to their sway in support. in other words, the cheerleaders always root for their team regardless of their record. you can be 0 and 12, the cheerleaders are always gonna chant being number #1!!! The biggest problem facing Edinburg today is the lack of CORPORATE REPRESENTATION, fine theirs a more than enough Restaurants, and yes i havent really seen a taco place go outta business, but lets face it Bealls is the ONLY Retail CHAIN ever to last in this area. GET THE PICTURE???? WE NEED CORPORATE RETAIL RELOCATING DOWN HERE, not some stupid freakin Water Park, Baseball teams, or Car washes!!! WE GET IT ALREADY, WE MEXICANS LOVE OUR RESTAURANTS AND CAR WASHES!!!, but wheres the Macys, Dillards, Footlockers, Champs, NADA zilch and that has been the norm for years... even JCPENNYs left Edinburg. BIG PROBLEMS for Edinburg, ALL WE HAVE ARE STUPID POVERTY LEVEL DOLLAR STORES POPPING UP ALL OVER THE PLACE, WAL MART, AND HEB OF COURSE TO SELL ALL THE FOOD TO LONESTAR BAR B Q BUNCH... I visited with the developers, I have taken your direction and read the comments on the website you mentioned. The comments on the webpage are very infomative, but not entirely accurate. I heard from the horse's mouth exactly what was going to happen.
I wish I was wrong, but I have no reason to say something that just isn't true.
I want this to happen as bad as anyone if not more. I am looking forward to seeing these stores come to our town, and hopefully it will happen. What you have to understand is that there is still much work to be done before it can be said that it is a done deal.
Yes something will happen, but the timing of these happenings is still to be determined.

The problem has nothing to do with "knowing whats going on in Edinburg" the real problem is never on the surface, but within 3rd degree deep. deals are being cut left and right and the trof can only hold so many hogs gorging themselves while the taxpayer is burdened with footing the bill. Gus you mention some words about rooting out some confusion or problems, but I have to admit, they aren't on the surface plain as day. These types of problems include you, but little do you know what you're conspiring to, due to the fact that you're new to the council, but aren't new to this city. So Im sure you've witnessed your fair share of politica here in Edinburg. One major problem is the UNBALANCED SOCIO ECONOMIC community we live in, EAST Edinburg is a whole other city when compared to West Edinburg. Another problem is Why is Our City Airport resembling Arkansas' MENA Airport (Read about it in the book about Bill Clinton titled: BOY CLINTON)and another major problem with this city is, its becoming MEXICO,,,,have your dad make a phone call to the border patrol and have them set up a mobile unit outside Wal Mart. This City will slowly deteriorate into Reynosa unless this city becomes vigilant about this major epidemic. So go ahead Gus take a stroll and witness the aforementioned 3 problems with this city, the reason i mention them is because these problems are only going to grow worse in nature. So if you truly care about this community, you'll bust your chops and choose these battles wisely, or are you simply in it for the FEEDING TROF? GIVE US, THE CITIZENS, SOMETHING WORTH VOTING FOR.

All I hear about Edinburg is that it is booming. The new retail developments in the city will change it forever. It has already surpassed Harlingen in population and will soon pass it in tax base and retail sales once the Shops is built. Think about it. This new development is going to attract the wealthy shoppers from La Plaza and I-83 retail to Edinburg.
Who would have thought that Edinburg would give McAllen competition. This is what is happening and it is due to the active participation of the city leaders. I wish the city leaders of Harlingen and Brownsville were half as pro-active.
The major anchors are JC Penny and Macy's.
